Crestwood Water Contamination
Recent newspaper reports have disclosed that the Village of Crestwood may have been using a contaminated well as a source of water for the Village of Crestwood's water supply for a number of years, According to news reports, environmental protection agency officials found the Village of Crestwood as far back as 1986 may have known that tap water in Crestwood contained potentially toxic chemicals related to a dry-cleaning solvent. Crestwood Village officials allegedly told state regulators that they obtained tap water from Lake Michigan and would use the well only in case of emergencies, but kept drawing contaminated water from the contaminated well according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. According to news reports in the Southtown Star, many residents have expressed concerns about a possible link to cancer. Other residents of Crestwood have expressed a concern about a high number of unusual and unexplained cases of cancer such as leukemia in Crestwood. Cancer related to long-term exposure to toxic chemicals including those potentially present in drinking water has been well-established in the scientific and medical literature.
